YouTube Shorts: the competitor to TikTok and Reels

The word of the moment is definitely objectivity, and, as incredible as it may seem, that's exactly what keeps users engaged on any platform these days. But it's worth saying that this ''fast time'' doesn't invalidate the quality and message that needs to come through in the content produced. Besides, there's a lot of work behind a 15-minute piece of content, for example. Betting on that, Google launched YouTube Shorts in 2021.

But, after all, what is YouTube Shorts?

Let us explain: think of TikTok and Reels! Got it? That's exactly the direction here. YouTube Shorts came to compete with them, and the idea is precisely to publish short videos, up to 1 minute long. You can also use snippets of songs from YouTube's own library (in videos up to 15 seconds long).

One appealing feature of Google, just like with all its other tools, is the intuitive approach to basic video editing, adding text/captions, and using filters. Plus, you can upload a video recorded on your phone and edit it right there on the platform.

As for how to use it, it's pretty simple! If you've ever uploaded a video to YouTube, you'll pick it up right away, since the process is the same.

We've put together a step-by-step guide for you:

  • Log in to your YouTube channel on a mobile device;
  • Tap “Create” (+) at the bottom center. Choose the “Create a Short” option in the tab;
  • Choose whether your video will be 15 or up to 60 seconds long;
  • Hold down the central capture button. Release it when you want to stop the video, or wait until it reaches the chosen time limit;
  • Tap “Done” to open the basic editing tool. Feel free to make improvements to your content, get creative! Then, move on to “Next” to add the clip's details;
  • To finish, choose a title with up to 100 characters and then tap “Upload” to post it.
