Have you noticed that TikTok is everywhere? It's hard to miss it on TV shows and even in bookstores. And even if you're not part of TikTok's millions of users, you're still on TikTok. The truth is that its content is expanding to several other platforms, like Instagram itself, which end up copying or adapting it, and we're all reached by it.
But, after all, what makes the platform different?
The first thing is more immersion. For example, TikTok is the only social network where you can only consume content with the sound on, which makes attention fully dedicated to it. Interestingly, it doesn't compete with streaming services.
Another differentiating point of the platform is less ''celebrity culture'', that's right, it's common to be impacted by people we have no idea who are, through quality content.
“Ah, but what about the algorithm?” Well, TikTok works with an algorithm with no chronology. It's through the ''For You Page'' that so many strangers reach us. And here lies the platform's valuable strategy, which categorizes and recommends content based on hashtags, captions and soundtracks. That's why your interactions make all the difference.
On top of all that, TikTok has a balance between the spontaneous and the dense. This means that its users are more spontaneous than on neighboring networks, which doesn't mean the content is shallow. Between cuts, dubbing and soundtracks, you have to consider the time spent producing a 15-second video, and that's exactly what makes the content so unique.
TikTok is already part of our culture, moving past being judged as just a ''young people's trend'' to something that has a huge impact on all of our daily lives.
