This year, Instagram started testing an infinite feed/infinite scroll. The idea was for the display format to make the app’s usability more immersive, similar to its neighboring app. This caused discomfort among many users, who didn’t let this ‘’test’’ go unnoticed.
Some users took part in the test, others didn’t… and faced with so many complaints, Instagram backtracked and paused the test, but some time later, the tests came back, once again sparking backlash against the update on the platform!
So much so that a campaign was started: “Make Instagram Instagram again. Stop trying to be TikTok, I just want to see cute photos of my friends. Sincerely, everyone.” It even got support from Kylie Jenner (the
second most followed user on Instagram with 361 million followers) and her sister Kim
Kardashian.
After all that commotion, did you think it wouldn’t reach the platform’s CEO? Well, it did! Adam Mosseri announced that the test will be ended in the coming weeks. He also stated that “for the new feed designs, people are frustrated and the usage data isn’t good. So, I think we need to take a big step back, regroup, and figure out how we want to move forward.”
And there’s more news!
The social network also stated that the algorithm will undergo an adjustment. With this, Instagram will deliver more posts from profiles users follow and fewer recommendations.
Relax, Instagram isn’t going away [laughs]! If you liked our content, share it with your network!
