On December 1st, the new LinkedIn app was launched, featuring a more intuitive, smart, and simplified navigation experience. In addition to the layout, navigability was redesigned, making the app's usability closer to that of a social network.
The App was divided into 5 sections: Feed (Home), Me, Messaging, My Network, and Search.
Feed (Home): A list of the most relevant content for your industry, role, and skills. Only the information you're interested in, and over time, it lets you filter out the things that matter less to you.
Me: Your profile area, where everything about you lives – who viewed your profile, who's commenting on or sharing your posts. It makes updating your profile more intuitive.
Messaging: Lets you start conversations faster in a lighter interface. It replaces email with a more informal way of connecting.
My Network: A daily briefing of what's happening in your network, in seconds you're notified about promotions and company anniversaries among your contacts, as well as suggestions for new connections.
By syncing your calendar, which will also help you stay sharp for your next meeting, you'll be prompted to check out the profile of the person you're about to meet, and you'll be able to see details about the connections or common interests you share. This way, you can skip the small talk and have a meaningful conversation.
Search: Now 300% faster, much smarter, and lets you quickly find the people, jobs, and groups you're looking for, even before you finish typing.
These changes aim to bring more focus to the main app, and this new app launcher feature is perfect for launching LinkedIn's other apps, such as Pulse, Groups, Job Search, and more.

Back in August 2013, LinkedIn's President, Jeff Weiner, had already hinted at what the company's new positioning would be.
"… LinkedIn used to be a place to put your résumé online. But that's changed. We're not a jobs site."

Could that be the goal? To finally break the stigma of being a jobs site and firmly establish itself as a professional Social Network?
If so, it worked!
