Google will soon launch YouTube TV, an internet-based cable TV service. Unlike Netflix, the platform isn't streaming on demand, but live broadcasting, with the option to record your favorite show to watch whenever you prefer. The question that remains is: what will advertising look like in this new format?
How does YouTube TV work?
The service works through an app for Android and iOS (iPhone), with the option to record content and watch it wherever and whenever you want. You just need an internet connection. To use YouTube TV, you have to pay 35 dollars a month (around R$110), with the option to cancel anytime and split the cost with friends, since each person can have up to six accounts.
Which channels are available on YouTube TV?
The platform offers several well-known channels, such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, Disney Channel, National Geographic, and FX. There are more than 40 options! If you want access to other channels, you'll need to pay a bit more.
What will digital advertising look like on YouTube TV?
YouTube TV users will likely receive specific, personalized content based on their preferences and consumption profile. That's not hard for Google, since it already has access to a huge amount of user data.
Google hasn't announced a launch date yet, but it's speculated that the platform will be available in July of this year. The service will likely arrive in the United States first.
