The update promised back in April 2020 has finally arrived for users
It took a while, but it's here! Telegram now has group video calling. The platform already had this type of feature, but only for one-on-one calls.
Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, confirmed that the tool includes the typical features users are already more than used to in a video conferencing service, such as screen sharing and support for mobile, desktop, and tablet.
Also, according to the company, the platform has its “own characteristics.” This means calls have the speed and encryption users expect from the platform.
Just a reminder, this update was promised back in April 2020, but it only ended up arriving now.
[UPDATE]
Telegram's group calls will be supported on both mobile apps, for Android and iOS, as well as on desktop. The feature will also let you pin one of the call participants' image so it stays centered and highlighted in the conference.
Another important update: you'll be able to share your screen instead of just showing what your camera captures. This way, Telegram can be used for presentations and broadcasts, just like on Zoom and Discord. You can even share your screen and your camera image at the same time.
For now, up to 30 participants can join the call, but that limit should increase soon.
