Everything you need to know
You've probably noticed that many advertising agencies in Brazil are using the colors of the LGBTQIA+ flag in their social media posts or avatars. And you probably also know that this movement is due to PL504/20.
But what is PL504/20?
In short, the bill aims to ban advertising pieces featuring LGBTQIA+ people, claiming “harm to children.”
The author of this bill claims that such ads would bring “emotional discomfort to countless families” and would show “harmful practices” to children.
We at On Marketing Digital are #abaixopl504!
The logic is very simple: every campaign, ad, idea, and post behind the content is designed to promote equality, respect, and love. This doesn't interfere with or turn people into something they already are. The intention is nothing more than connecting with others and making communication a voice for a better world.
PL504/20 is limited and shallow, as it stems from an empty, meaningless idea that in no way represents what communication and marketing stand for today.
It's absurd and sad that, in the 21st century, we still have to fight for freedom and diversity, not just in advertising, but in the world.
As John Lennon once said, “Imagine all the people living life in peace.”
