Facebook is taking another important step to prevent fake news from circulating on social media. Mark Zuckerberg's site announced that it will prevent people from editing the Link Preview in posts. In the future, it will no longer be possible to change the image, title, and description of shared content. In other words, the information found on the original source will be kept.
However, the news brought quite a lot of negative backlash, and the social network stated that content producers will be able to use the Link Ownership extension to edit links as they did before the change.
Even so, users only have until September 12th of this year to request this feature. The tool will appear under Publishing Tools on the Facebook page. This is only possible for media editors.
If you're a Social Media manager for a company that offers products or services, this change might give you a bit of a headache. But there's a way to work around it! You'll need to change the Open Graph tags on your website and posts.
This way, you can control how your content is displayed on Facebook, helping ensure high-quality posts and preventing Facebook's Crawler from making wrong guesses about the title, description, and preview image of your post.
